WHY?
Creativity and innovation will enable Myanmar to leapfrog into the 21st century and create opportunities for generations to come. Science, technology and innovation (STI) can increase productivity in agriculture, provide new sources of revenue and expand access to essential services such as health, energy and communications.
The Science, Technology and Innovation Law, enacted on 25 June 2018, is set to play a vital role in promoting science, technology and innovation to support national development goals.
It is time to develop Myanmar’s Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policy to make Myanmar the next Asian Tiger and support sustainable and inclusive development.
WHO?
The Department of Research and Innovation (DRI), Ministry of Education of Myanmar, is leading the process of co-creating Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policy with the support of ESCAP.
Formulating a bold and coherent STI policy to make Myanmar the next Asian Tiger requires inputs, leadership and contributions from multiple decision makers, including policymakers from different ministries, universities, private-sector and civil society.
HOW?
A group of policy champions – the Sherpas – will co-create Myanmar’s STI Policy through a series of training webinars, facilitated discussions and national consultations. To ensure that the national STI Policy responds to your needs and aspirations, your participation in national consultations will be fundamental!
